Welcome Back Catholics
Pope Francis’ encyclical letter, “The Gospel of Joy,” presents one of the most significant magisterial statements in recent years:
“I dream of a “missionary option,” that is, a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation.”
The pope’s “dream” is about mission, not about maintenance. To be “missionary disciples” it is not necessary to leave our homes. Motivated by divine love, we simply must give witness to our Christian faith by practical acts of love and kindness that brings joy to others. Pope Francis goes on to say: “We know well that with Jesus life becomes richer and with him it is easier to find meaning in everything.”
When we share our faith in Jesus with conviction, enthusiasm and love, we make the gospel attractive to those searching for meaning and, for whatever reason, have lost their desire to practice their Catholic Christian faith. Here at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish we welcome to our faith community those people currently inactive in practicing their Catholic faith.
Whether “active” or “inactive” in our faith, we must take Pope Francis’ invitation seriously: “I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day.”
We live in turbulent times for Christians. Do you know someone searching for a faith home or who would like to “feel at home” again in the Catholic Church? If it’s you, or someone you know, no matter how long or no matter the reason, IHM provides a place to renew a personal relationship with the Lord through the sacramental life of this parish. Please contact the parish office at 336-869-7739 to arrange to speak to a priest, a deacon or a parishioner ready to answer your questions. Welcome back!
