Order of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA formerly RCIA) is the process where adults become members of the Catholic Church. OCIA classes normally begin at the end of August and continue until the end of May. The classes are held weekly and those who attend are in formation to learn what the Catholic Church believes and are given the opportunity to ask questions about those beliefs. If you are curious about the Catholic faith, or know someone who is, come and join us. There is no cost, other than your time and there is no obligation; just because you start doesn’t mean you have to finish. Classes are for the unbaptized and the baptized. All are welcome. Our classes begin on August 20, at 7:00 PM and meet most Tuesdays thereafter. Classes meet in Meeting Room 1, in the Church.
The first step is to schedule an interview with Deacon Wally Haarsgaard. Call 336-884-5352 or email [email protected]

OCIA Call for Sponsors (Formerly RCIA)
Soon we will begin a new journey with those seeking to know more about the Catholic Faith. Each person will have a sponsor who will travel with them on this journey. A sponsor represents the church and offers a welcoming presence that assists and encourages those seeking baptism and or full communion through the various steps of the OCIA experience. The sponsor attends the catechetical sessions, goes to Mass with the person and stands with the person at the various liturgical rites.
You don’t have to be a theologian to be a sponsor. It is important to share and perhaps deepen your own experience of faith. Most important is being a good listener, being a prayerful and encouraging presence.
· A sponsor must have received the sacraments of initiation; baptism, confirmation and eucharist.
· A sponsor must be in full communion with the Catholic church and regularly attending Mass.
· A sponsor must be at least 17 years of age.
· A sponsor cannot be the father or mother of the candidate.
· A sponsor would begin to attend meetings on October 2.
If you would like to learn more about being an OCIA sponsor, please contact Deacon Wally Haarsgaard at: [email protected].

New Bible Study
Isaiah’s work as a prophet was compiled from approximately 742BC until 687 BC. The Book of Isaiah is a compilation of poems composed chiefly by the great prophet but also by his disciples. The primary themes of Isaiah can be summarized by encompassing a more immanent image of God, every human person’s need to be humbled before him, the promise of a restored Kingdom of David, the extension of salvation to the world, and the glorious coming of the New Jerusalem. Isaiah can be considered a summary of the faith of Israel in the Old Testament and a gateway to the revelation of Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
Part One of our study covers chapters 1-39. The study includes a video lecture and workbook which has a link for those who want to watch the video online. The workbook includes prayer and questions for discussion at the end of each session. The participant workbook is $10.95. Isaiah part one has 6 lessons. The study begins on Wednesday, September 4, in St. Edward’s A at 9:30 AM.
Isaiah Part Two covers chapter 40-66 and suggests that God’s plan is not so much about retribution for Israel but reconciliation and the restoration that God’s grace allows. There is a workbook for this part as well for the same price. There will be 6 sessions in Part 2 as well.
If you wish more information or to register, please contact Deacon Wally Haarsgaard at email: [email protected].
Or go online to Little Rock Scripture Study follow the link to Isaiah and watch the introduction.
The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light.
Upon those who lived in a land of gloom
A light has shown. (Isa 9:1)

Broken Cement and Brick Pavers in Front of the Church & PLEC
Please do not drive up to the building onto the cement, brick pavers, or grass around the front, sides, and courtyard of the Church or PLEC buildings.
These areas aren’t constructed to withstand the weight of a vehicle and some areas have water pipes running under them. The repairs to these areas with pipes have already been costly due to vehicles driving up to the buildings.
The ramps were installed for handicap accessibility, to assist funerals and deliveries via hand truck.
If you require assistance with picking up or dropping items off, please park at the curb and come to the office. We are happy to help.
