2003
In Attendance: Keith Davis, Jim Dorsowiecz, Leida
Herschel, Jacqui Miller, Diane Hurley, Georgia Ezzell, Jean Dames, Deacon Fred,
Fr. Jack
Meeting was called to order by Keith Davis and opened with
a prayer led by Deacon Fred.
Fr. Jack said a few words about how the stewardship fair
was a great success. There were no complaints and the tables lined in the
narthex did not seem to pose a problem for arrivals and departures. We can
probably count on the fair getting larger in coming years as a result of our
parish’s growth and the continued vision/potential for new ministries.
We welcomed 2 new members to our committee:
Georgia Ezzell
885-2777
1511-B Sadler Ct., 27260
bluerosequeengaezl@netzero.com
Jean Dames
812-3433
3617 Grindstaff Ave., 27265
ncdamesj@northstate.net
Keith passed out copies of the spreadsheets listing the
volunteers who signed up during the stewardship fair. There were approximately
33 people who signed up. Overall we agreed that this was very satisfactory.
Deacon Fred & Keith brought up that because this theme seemed to be so
successful we would continue through the year and into the next stewardship
fair. At that time we can decide if the theme has run it’s course or if our
committee feels that we can run the same theme for one more year. (Most themes
run their course in 2 to 3 years). Keith also brought up the fact that next
year we may want a table for the Properties commission. Deacon Fred said that
he was impressed with our fair. Notes for next year: If our next fair
requires more room, and in all probability this will be the case, we could move
some tables into the meeting room(s) and lead to those rooms with refreshments
in the hall.
Jim mentioned that it might be nice to recognize Tootie
Reinig for her years of dedicated service to our commission. Everyone was in
agreement. Leida will call O’Connor blossom shop and order flowers.
Mass assignment for welcome weekend on October 4th
& 5th are as follows:
5:30 Leida & Jean
7:30 Diane
9:30 Jim & Georgia
11:30 Jacqui
Discussed Newcomer Dinner: Next newcomer dinner is
tentatively scheduled for February 21st. Deacon Fred’s suggestion,
at our meeting in August, of a pot luck still has strong appeal. We do realize
however that this can only be accomplished with the commitment of the other
commissions. Keith will bring this issue to the attention of the parish council
for their response & commitment. If he receives a positive response, we will
make assignments at the October meeting.
Our meeting ended with a prayer led by Deacon Fred.
Our next meeting will be on October 27th.

Jack
Committee reviewed letter by Keith for Heart to Heart which
will be distributed before the stewardship fair.
Keith made the suggestion that for uniformity in appearance
at the stewardship fair skirts be purchased at an approximate cost of $2.50/per
for every table. Keith gave Tootie the location of the store that had these
skirts at this price. Tootie will see if she can find these and make the
purchase. Baskets will be at each table for the yellow cards. Our committee
will collect the cards, each committee can write down names & numbers if they so
choose for their own immediate use. Keith will collate the information from the
yellow cards and prepare a spreadsheet to be given to Ann Marie & Fr. Jack to be
distributed to the various commissions. There will not be in refreshments at
this year’s stewardship fair.
Stewardship committee members should be at the church at
3:30 on Saturday, September 13th for set-up.
Mass assignment for stewardship fair on September 13th
& 14th are as follows:
5:30 Jim & Jacqui
7:30 Tootie
9:30 Carey & Leida
11:30 Keith & Carey
Mass assignment for welcome weekend on September 6th
& 7th are as follows:
5:30 Jim
7:30 Tootie
9:30 Carey
11:30 Leida
Discussed Newcomer Dinner: May move next newcomer dinner
to February, due to the slow down in new registering members. Deacon Fred gave
us some wonderful ideas for consideration for these future events. Among those
ideas are –brunch (rather than dinner), pictures for a newcomer’s bulletin
board, pot luck dinner provided by various commissions. We really loved the pot
luck idea, especially because other commissions would be involved.
Carey - debt reduction weekend will be moved to the weekend
of September 13th & 14th and that the second collection
on the first weekend of the month would be for the priest retirement fund.
Jim reiterated the fact that we really need to work on
recruiting new members to our commission. Stewardship weekend should give us
the perfect opportunity. Keith will talk to Terry Aiken about a new youth
representative.
Fr. Jack thanked our committee for the work that has been
done. Our parish is very welcoming with strong involvement from many of the
parishioners.
Fr. Jack also told us that the first Spanish mass will be
held on January 4th at 2:00. The Hispanic community will handle all
of their own commissions.
Our next meeting will be on September 22nd.

Meeting
June 23, 2003
In Attendance: Jim Dorsowiecz, Leida Herschel, Diane
Hurley, Carey Ilderton, Jacqui Miller, Tootie Reinig
The committee attempted but failed to locate the “Where Do
I Fit In?” video.
Discussed upcoming Newcomer Dinner. Jacqui confirmed that
July 19th would be the date for the next dinner. Leida will send out
the invitations on July 7th and notify committee members with the
call lists. Jim, Diane, and Keith will not be able to attend the dinner.
Changes were made to the division of duties and are as follows:
Fruit Tray -Jacqui
Cheese & Crackers -Jacqui
Beer & Wine -Carey
Soft Drinks -Diane
Sandwiches,
Pizza, Cake -Leida
Note: Parish council will not be meeting in July.
Carey received from Keith, samples of the prayer cards (in
the form of bookmarks) that will be distributed at the stewardship fair. The
group agreed that the cards are wonderful and the consensus was that at least
2,000 need to be ordered. Keith has confirmed that he has 2,000 ready.
Embarrassingly, not all members of our committee were familiar with the portrait
of St. Francis de Sales. In order to alleviate this embarrassment among
parishioners, Fr. Tony will bring a portrait, which he possesses, to be placed
on an easel.
Stewardship fair - Diane brought to our attention that the
weekend of September 13th & 14th is the weekend of the
Bethany beach trip. This could be a set back because many of the beach goers
are highly active parishioners, including Diane. Keith is looking into a date
change, but we may have to stick with the September date. This could actually
induce some others to participate. Diane found out that the original puzzle
idea from Oriental trading will not work, but that idea is not out the window
yet. Jacqui will bring a sample to the July meeting. We briefly discussed that
we are on the cusp or our reach out to the Hispanic community. Fr. Tony
confirmed that masses held in Spanish would be much later in the year so our
consideration of a need for interpreters at this fair is not necessary. We may,
however, want to consider a table at the SF for reach out to the Hispanic
community. Further discussion will take place at the July meeting. We still
would like for this year to be a great one.
Carey, per the instructions of Keith, informed all members
present that the next Stewardship conference would take place in March of 2004.
The bulletin boards in the halls on both sides of the
narthex are full of wonderful information. We need to find a way, maybe through
the greeter, to remind people to check these boards.

May 21, 2003
In Attendance: Tootie Reinig, Carey Ilderton, Jacqui
Miller, Jim Dorsowiecz, Fr. Jack
We, or at least I, failed to welcome our new member Diane.
I also failed to get her last name, addresses, and phone number. Diane works
with Jim, so I am sure that he can forward these notes to her until I get that
info.
Discussed upcoming Newcomer Dinner. Jacqui will call Ann
Marie to see if July 19th is available (second choice would be July
26th. We had discussed Subway sandwiches at a previous meeting and
decided on a combo of sandwiches and pizza for the July dinner. Additional food
is as follows:
Fruit Tray -Tootie
Cheese & Crackers -Jacqui
Beer & Wine -Jim
Soft Drinks -Diane
Those present briefly discussed changing our meeting date
to the original time, which is the third Monday of each month. This was brought
forward as a request from Keith Davis. All agreed that the change would not be
a problem, therefore our next meeting will be June 16th, 2003.
Note: Parish council will not be meeting in July.
The stewardship fair was also discussed. Though we talked
about a date in November, I have since discovered that Keith has already booked
the weekend of September 13th & 14th. We talked about the
theme “Where do you fit in?” and threw around creative ideas such as having a
drawing similar to the one a few years back. One idea was to have a puzzle
–each commission will get one piece to the puzzle, parishioners obtain a piece
of the puzzle at each table visited, 9 or so pieces must be collected and
returned to the stewardship table to be eligible for the drawing. Diane will
ask Treka Jennings about the possibility of ordering religious puzzles from
Oriental Trading or a similar vendor. Further discussion will take place at the
June meeting. We really would like for this year to be a great one.
Jacqui will call Ann Marie (the youth ministry
representative) to let her know about the meeting change.

Keith started the meeting with an update on our new prayer
card/book mark. We have decided to present it to the parish on June 7th
and 8th.
In addition, we will present our new stewardship video. We
will use large big screen TV’s in the narthex.
Keith will talk with Pat about writing a paragraph in kid’s
corner about using the kids envelopes. In addition, the next stewardship article
in the bulletin will start with the theme, “Where do you fit in”.
Tootie: brought up having a 21-day pray study leading up to
our next fair. Shared ideas with Fr. Jack
Carey: will research office supplies for a better display
for the table where we currently have envelopes.

Barbara Gaddy from the Charlotte office came to speak with
us on moving forward in our stewardship development. She gave us several
suggestions and ideas to work on.
One suggestion that Barbara gave us, is that we need to
move towards getting our youth more involved in the various commissions. Keith
will get together with Terry Aiken about working towards this goal. Terry has
already been asked to get youth volunteers to serve on Stewardship Commission.
An important thing to remember is that the youth need to be treated and feel as
though they are contributing participants with ideas and thoughts, not just as
manpower.
Spiritual renewal needs to be our goal.
Ways to turn focus to stewardship:
-
establish theme for the upcoming year
-
something common to be used and seen by all (ie: prayer card)
-
produce stewardship video (need editor, writer, commentator, pictures)
-
develop more avenues for people to give out of gratitude
-
put a children’s corner in the bulletin with envelopes to be reinstated
and distributed in a prayer service during mass
-
contribution method for older youth
-
put time & talent contributions with monetary or separate from
stewardship heading
Stewardship meeting for triad to be held at St. Pius X on
Oct. 14th from 6:30 to 8:00.
Stewardship convention to be held weekend of April 5th
at Adams Mark in Charlotte.
Keith gave all members calendars. Meetings have been moved
to new church and will begin at 5:15.

Fr. Jack
Discussed possibilities to encourage parishioners to reach $15,000 weekly
goal, but did not make much headway. Also touched on pledge cards. Carey will
meet with Wes Frye to discuss pledge cards.
Carey is also talking to some possibilities for members to our committee.
Hopefully we will have an update on this at the July meeting. Julia Huizenga
will be leaving soon to work in the Peace Corp.
Moved onto Ministry Fair weekend where a theme of vineyards was suggested by
Tootie with an entrance saying, I am the vine and you are the branches. Carey
brought in samples of magnets. We selected the church and then threw out ideas
for wording, trying to get stewardship in there.
On pledge cards remove $20, add $100, and More than $100.
Jacqui will call Leida to verify that newcomer invitations will be mailed out
in time.
Need to have speakers at all masses either weekend of ministry fair or
weekend before. All speakers should be on same wavelength. Doug will write up
something for the speakers to possibly say. We will review at July meeting.
Next meeting, Monday July 23rd.

The November pledge weekend should be
postponed because the Capital Campaign will be sending out a letter asking for
additional money extending the period of current pledges.
Information from Leida indicated that -per
Glenda, the diocese does not allow bank draft for contributions.
The current offertory is about $3,000 off the
December goal of $15,000 per week.
We need to be creative in keeping the message
OUT and POSITIVE.
In January we will have a better sense of how
the extension on the Capital Campaign went and an idea of how much we have &
need. The realization will hit in later part of 1st qrtr or early 2nd qrtr.
Stewardship is the feature Commission in the
month of November. At the next meeting details need to be set.
Stewardship brochures were distributed to the
attending members. These are to be critiqued & at October meeting give results &
thoughts about use as a distribution to the parish.
Ideas thrown out for future consideration:
Stewardship table every Welcome
Weekend
Next ministry fair - at entrance
give out stewardship bags
Maybe one of us could be
available to speak at meetings of other commissions
Witness talk feature in Heart
to Heart
A stewardship column in Heart
to Heart
In October we need to begin preparations for
the January Newcomers’ Event.
Fr. Joe Suggested that we may want to send a
letter to all commissions to let them know that we are available to assist them
and that they should promote stewardship. We may possibly want to also include
that we are open to suggestions. We need to focus on connecting with the people
of the parish.
