Fr. McGee's presentation. Very much enjoyed by those that attended.
Other Comments for future reference include:

v IHM Priest to visit each ministry and personally promote the program by
expressing that each of the Liturgical Ministries is not just a function to be
carried out but how we all feed from one another.
v Disappointed that we were unable to do a "walk-thru" mass.
v Fr. Tony suggests that the Liturgy Coord. Plan a strategic planning session in
which to develop goals for the next year that include development of the
spiritual and theological aspects of each ministry.

Unfinished Business
Stewardship Weekend
The weekend was OK. Signups were minimal and the space is
hard to work. You had to go into the center area to encourage people to come to
the side & volunteer.
Advent
The banners have been designed & fabric will be ordered
for Advent. Fr Tony suggested that we put the Advent wreath near the new statue
of Mary. Fr Tony, Barbara Whicker, & Ann Price will design the area and they
will use candlesticks with a fresh green wreath.
Note with each Sunday of
Advent a candle will be carried into the church. It will be lighted and then
taken to the Advent Wreath area.
Formation Training
Fr Tony asked John McGee about Formation Training. He is
not available and could not do anything before Spring. The committee agreed to
wait until Spring for training. Fr Tony will arrange for the dates.
Ministers of Consolation
Fr Jack is going to talk with Jim Hoyng about this new
ministry.
Renewal
Dates were discussed for Renewal. Fr Tony said he would
contact several of the suggested speakers and see who is available. Possible
names that were mentioned were as follows:
Fr Jim Greenfield
Fr Joe Dimauro
Fr Dick Dellillo
Fr Barry Strong
Fr Michael Connolly
Fr Joe Zuschmidt
The Commission will discuss in more detail after we have
a speaker.
Weekday Liturgy Coordinators
This new ministry will happen with persons involved in
daily masses. Fr Tony to follow-up.
New Business
Catechetical Sunday
At each mass we will announce that all volunteers that
participate in the ministries to stand. (FF, RCIA, Teachers,&etc) There will be
a blessing and recognition of the ministry.
911 Service
This special service will begin our new Wednesday Night
Services. The mass will begin at 6:30PM. We will need a Lector. The Eucharistic
Ministers will be asked from the congregation like at daily masses.
Statue of Mary
Fr Tony announced that we should think about a name for
Mary. The Committee agreed on “Mary of Cana.” Everyone was very pleased with
Mary. She adds so much to the church.
“Our Father”
Fr Tony noted that when we say the “Our Father” at Mass
that there should be no movement until the Sign of Peace. The Commission
suggested that the priests say to the congregation not to move.
Fr Tony
New saboriums that stack were ordered.
New Greeter Books were ordered.
It was noted that there is an extension ladder at the
Barbee St location that can be used at the new church. We can also purchase a
12’0” ladder for smaller jobs.
Jane Bunneman has agreed to make ordinary time
processional banners. We will need to work on new stands to raise the banners.
Music Ministry
Wanda Garrett announced that she has a new assistant Mary
Connelly. Mary comes to us from St Pius. She will be the director for the IHM
Singers, and will play for all Weddings & Funerals. In addition, she will be the
accompanist for the Adult Choir.
The Meeting was adjourned.
IHM Liturgy Commission
Minutes for
April 6, 2002
- Opening Prayer: Jim Wall
- Approval of March Minutes: Deferred to May
meeting. There were no available March minutes for review.
- 1st Communion: Tess Stephenson was
at the March meeting and reviewed the service and needs. A rehearsal date
has been set and things are progressing well.
- Review of Easter Services
- Reconciliation Service: A request was made
by an IHM member for more private rooms. This issue was discussed and
the consensus was to only offer the formal reconciliation chapel.
- Palm Sunday: The Narthex space worked very
well for congregation gatherings. It was noted that the speakers in the
Narthex need to be tweaked.
**Palms—need to order more palm crosses and
same amount of long palm fronds so that other items can be made from palm and
place in the church for decoration.
- Holy Thursday: Need to increase
foot-washing stations to 6 versus 4 in order to help things move faster
along. Great participation!! Great participation also in the procession
to the chapel—but people took this as an opportunity to leave the church
and the service altogether. Very few people were present for the
stripping of the altar and adoration. A suggestion was made to use the
Narthex as a temporary alternative for adoration and indicate direction
in the program.
- Good Friday: Discussion about the
possibility of purchasing a wooden cross that is more representative in
material and artistic nature to our new one. Wanda suggested that
perhaps more liturgical movement could happen closer to the new
stationary cross next year. Fr. Joe suggested that the program should
indicate instructions of bodily direction, focus and attention that
should be given to the cross by the congregation.
**Bulletin announcement during the Easter
time explaining why the cross is in a closed position. A lot of people have
asked why it is still closed! Fr. Joe will do this as a "Did You Know" item.
- Vigil: Maybe next year consider using the
font for the congregation to receive holy water instead of using the up
front water bowls of holy water.
- Easter Sunday: 7:30 am service was attended
well.
Overall comments were very complimentary to all
those involved in the service. A big thanks from Fr. Joe to all those you
participated in any way to the Easter/Lenten period and it’s success!!!!!!!!!
- Stewardship Fair May 18-19: Barbara and Terri
will set up table.
Schedule for manning the table: 6:00 pm Terri
9:00 am Barbara & Don
11:00 am Wanda, Kathi and Margaret
- Confirmation: May 21st at 7:00 pm.
Since this will be the Tuesday of Pentecost weekend it was decided to leave
the red Pentecost decorations. Terry Aiken and Fr. Joe will be meeting to
set up rehearsal date. Needs for the service include 2 extra alter servers
as honor guards for the Bishop plus the regular 3, ushers, EM’s and
lectors-which usually are parents of those to be confirmed.
- Pentecost: Need to do some brainstorming on
"red" decorations for the new church—Barbara and Terri will began working on
this. Kathi will check on prices of new types of flags in W. Salem.
- New Business:
- May Agenda item: The commission needs to be
thinking about an activity/program for faith formation.
- Do an overview of Liturgical Commissions successes
and needs assessments.
- Pastor’s Comments:
- Need to remember the chapel (old church) when
planning decorations.
- Barbara suggested that the plants and trees
purchased for various services throughout the year be planted on the new
grounds in meeting the landscape plans for the new site.
- Terri suggested that the volunteers at the new
location check on the sanctuary candle. It has burned out several times.
Maybe this could be added to their list of responsibilities.
- Adjournment: 8:00 pm
XI. Next Meeting date:
May 13, 2002 at 7:00 pm
MINUTES SEPTEMBER 10, 2001
ENVIRONMENT
Volunteers names(4) were given from the
Stewardship Weekend. Terry was asked to contact everyone and thank them for
their commitment.
Fr Joe noted that Terry would have to have
two groups of Volunteers. One set for the new church and one set for our
present church would be needed. As we come
closer to December more specific plans can be discusses
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
Volunteers names(11) were given to Jean. All
will be contacted and there will be a Training session on September 19 @7pm and
another on September 22, 2001 @11am. All volunteers will be called and thanked
and asked to attend one of the two training sessions.
LECTORS
Volunteers names (6) were given to Victoria
and she will contact all and thank them. In addition Fr Jack and Victoria will
plan to have a training session in September for the new volunteers.
HOSPITALITY
There was one volunteer for Hospitality.
Donald will contact him and ask him to join the 10am mass schedule. Also, when
we are in the new church, we will need more volunteers for the hospitality
ministry. Donald will try to recruit.
MUSIC
Wanda was absent. There were two volunteers
for adult choir and one volunteered for keyboard. I spoke w/Wanda and she will
call them.
Fr Joe noted that we needed to make a
decision on the Missal. It was suggested that we not order them for the new
church. The people that use them don’t participate in the service as much as
those who listen and don’t use the Missals. We voted and all were in favor w/the
exception of Barbara and Terry. It was noted that we would order large print for
the hearing impaired. No Missals will be ordered in the future.
Fr Joe would also like to get the Hymnals
sorted out for the new church. How many and which ones?
It was also noted that Music needs to submit
a list to Fr Joe as to their needs such as instruments, music, etc. I spoke to
Wanda after the meeting and a list will given to Fr Joe and Fr Jack in their
mail.
SERVERS
I have forwarded the volunteers(2) from the
Stewardship weekend to Mickey. He stated that there are an abundance of servers
at this time and he will not have training until he is in the new church. At
present there are 157 servers signed to volunteer. He will contact the new
volunteers and let them know the schedule.
RENEWAL
There was discussion at the August meeting
and Fr Joe said that the Isaiah Mission is not going to work for 2002 Renewal.
It was suggested that the Parish Council develop a program and plan the Renewal
based on our role "Who we are? "with emphasis on servant leadership. Dates for
Renewal are confirmed for March 4, 5, & 6,2002. More details will follow.
LITURGICAL GREETER
Kathy Auman-Einig will review next meeting
and will place an ad in the bulletin for volunteers. This ministry will begin in
the new church. It was noted that the announcements should be limited to 2 or 3
per mass.
It was suggested that we have at least two
volunteers per mass. Nine to twelve people would be optimal.
LITURGICAL CO-ORDINATOR
Fr Jack has several candidates and will begin
training in September. In order to have persons ready to begin in October at the
present church and be prepared for the new church.
Fr Jack is working on Job Description for
this important aspect of the Liturgy. .
HEART TO HEART
Advent deadline is October 23 for H2H. Connie
will write an article for this issue "In Joyful Anticipation, The Spirit of
Advent."
In addition we will want to reiterate the new
mass schedule for the new church 6pm Saturday, 9&11 on Sundays.
The Christmas schedule will be 6,9, &
midnight on December 24 and 10 am on Christmas. Note, there will be no 9am mass
on December 24.
New years eve will be at 7pm and 10 am on New
years.
It was noted that we send an ad to the local
newspapers w/ the new mass schedules for the new church.
In addition we should announce to Furniture
Market visitors our new schedule in October. All future services will be in the
new church w/the exception of the 7am Furniture Mkt. Mass. It will stay at our
present location.
ADDITIONAL SCHEDULES
All Saints Day
October 31 5pm mass only w/ music November 1
9am and 7pm
Immaculate Conception
December 7 7pm and December 8 10am
ADVENT
As it stands now w/ construction on time,
Advent will be in the our present and Christmas will be in the new church. All
ministries will have to have training in the new church after we have occupancy
of the building in December.
The fourth Sunday of Advent will be the last
service in the present church.
CHRISTMAS
Both churches will have to be decorated for
Christmas. The decorations at the present church will not be as elaborate as
before. The new church will require some decorations, such as wreaths on the
doors and possibly Christmas trees. More detail will follow after a visit to the
site.
DEDICATION
The Bishop will preside and the date for the
dedication of the new church is February 3, 2002 @2pm. We want to develop a
sense of pageantry. Everyone to be involved. Have all Commissions make new

LITURGY COMMISSION
MINUTES JUNE 11, 2001
MEETING
The Liturgical Commission met as a group at the new church building site. Fr
Jack gave a tour of the building and introduced us to the job foreman. It was
great seeing the progress and from all indications everything is on schedule
for a December competion date. All the commission could not believe the
actual size of the space. The sun was setting as we left. One could just
imagine how beautiful our church will be.
There will be no July Meeting. Our next meeting will be on August 13, 2001.
LITURGY COMMISSION
MINUTES MAY 14, 2001
MEETING
ENVIRONMENT
Terry reported that banners would be turned around for confirmation and
Pentecost. Terry is to be out of town, but directions have been given to all
those involved.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
Usual summer scheduling. Confirmation has been covered by the youth.
Inventory has been taken and we will have to have more dishes and glasses due
to the increased number of stations. Wanda will submit $500 to the budget for
them.
LECTORS
Summer scheduling and confirmation has been covered by youth.
HOSPITALITY
It was noted that in the new church that there needs to be a medallion or
some designation for hospitality ministers. Also needed would be reserved
signs and baskets for collection. Some research is being done on the
medallions and it was noted that the baskets are possibly going to be a gift
from a parishioner.
MUSIC
Wanda still has the need for an accompanist for the choir at 10Mass. There
have been ads placed in the bulletin and in the paper. She asks everyone to
try and think of a replacement.
CONFIRMATION
Youth will participate in all aspects and choir will sing. The date is May
29, 2001 @7:30PM. Bishop Curlin will be the presider.
RENEWAL
It was noted that Fr Joe would like to have the Isiah Mission. It is a
package and takes 4days. St Pauls has used it and Kathy Auman-Einig said she
would call St Paul's
about theirs.
LITURGICAL GREETER
Kathy Auman-Einig will review next meeting.
LITURGICAL CO-ORDINATOR
Fr Jack has several candidates and will begin training this fall or late
summer. In order to have persons ready to begin in the fall at the present
church and be prepared for the new church.
Fr Jack is working on Job Description for this important aspect of the
Liturgy.
DEDICATION
It was discussed when would be a good time for dedication. All were in favor
of a January Dedication Service. The feast of St Francis de Sales is Jan 24
and the closest Sunday is January 27, 2002. All were in favor of a morning
service like at the 50th Anniversary. An 11AM service was suggested.
HEART TO HEART
Will discuss next meeting
COMMISSION SECRETARY
It was expressed that we need a Liturgy Commission Secretary. Everyone was to
bring a suggestion to the next meeting!
IHM Liturgy Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 5, 2001
Members Present: Connie Bergman, Mickey Boylan, Victoria Fonke, Don Fordyce,
Margaret Haarsgaard (chair), Deacon Tom Kak, Rev. Jack Kelly, Terry
Mulligan, Bob Vareha, Barbara Whicker
Opening Prayer was offered by Connie
Review of Last Meeting Minutes
* We clarified Connie's new duties as Heart to Heart coordinator of
the commission. Connie will act as liaison to the Heart to Heart newspaper
and to the bulletin, to coordinate who needs to write what and when.
Ministry Reports
Lectors (Victoria)
* We discussed what lectors would be needed for Renewal, although
nobody was sure. We thought that Victoria should plan for one lector on
Monday, one on Tuesday, and two on Wednesday. (I think we ended up only
needing one on Wednesday, none on the other nights.)
* Margaret mentioned that the Lenten introduction, which was to be
read before Mass on the first Sunday of Lent, was not placed on the Ambo.
However, nobody knew who was responsible for doing this.
* The write-ups that we use for the readings of the Passion on Palm
Sunday and Good Friday have not been revised for the new translation.
Altar Servers (Mickey)
* Mickey needs to schedule servers for Holy Week. We determined that
two servers are needed for Good Friday. After the other Triduum
subcommittees meet, Mickey can talk to Fr. Jack about server needs for Holy
Thursday, and to Fr. Joe about Easter Vigil.
* Mickey needs to schedule two servers for Mass on Wednesday night
during Renewal.
* We have a problem with altar servers not showing up for their
scheduled masses. Mickey will try to start a sign-up sheet, to have
attending servers record their names before Mass. The server schedule is
mailed to the kids, and is also posted in the bulletin.
* Mickey has obtained a formation book for altar servers, to aid in
spiritual training, in addition to their logistical training. He is
planning to increase the training to 5 hours. He also plans to coordinate
"teams" to serve together, with more experienced servers leading the younger
servers on the same team.
* Mickey has thoughts of using three servers per Mass in the new
church - two carrying candles in the procession, one with the cross. Fr.
Jack said to wait and see how our liturgy planning takes shape before we
move. If candles were used in the procession, he said, they could be
transferred directly to the Ambo, in preparation for Liturgy of the Word.
* Eight more recruits have signed up for serving from faith formation,
plus seven or eight others from the school.
Music (Bob)
* Victoria stated a concern about the music at the youth Mass, that
Wanda dictates to the musicians which songs to play, and some of those songs
are not appropriate for guitars. Fr. Jack agreed that the musicians should
have the freedom to choose what to play. Bob explained that Wanda welcomes
the musicians at each Mass to choose music, as long as it matches the themes
of the liturgy for that Mass. It was suggested that Wanda discuss this with
Dan and Sharon, who lead the youth music ministry.
Liturgy Coordinator Ministry
* Fr. Jack has heard from three qualified people who are interested in
this ministry. They were informed of it by Fr. Jack's Heart to Heart
article.
* Fr. Jack plans to mention the ministry in the bulletin right after
Easter. Then training will start soon after Easter, and the ministry will
start to serve in the summer.
Renewal - March 10-14
* Connie and Kathi will provide the refreshments on Monday night.
They will prepare cookies and drinks for 75-100 people. Margaret plans to
bring tablecloths.
* Wally Haarsgaard is providing the refreshments on Wednesday night.
* Barbara is preparing the Reconciliation service on Tuesday night,
and she needs the names of the participating priests, and "the stuff under
Fr. Joe's bed."
Training
* We will plan for formation and training of ministries to be held in
September. Attendance will be mandatory for all ministers, as much will be
new for serving in the new church.
Holy Day Subcommittees
* Holy Thursday - Fr. Jack, Terry, Barbara, Mickey
* Good Friday - Deacon Tom (no subcommittee)
* Easter Vigil - Fr. Joe, Wanda, Margaret
* Subcommittees are to meet prior to our next commission meeting
First Eucharist
* Betsy Strauss supplied us with a sheet of information. Her main
concern for us was scheduling the clean-up of the church before Sunday
Masses around the planned retreat, which will be held in the church. Terry
said she will handle it.
Other Business
* Bob is resigning from the commission, because he and his family are
moving back to Pittsburgh. Bob expressed his thanks to the commission for
their support, and that he has enjoyed his time of service in the parish.
Fr. Jack was very generous in his thoughts, thanking Bob for his
stewardship, and saying that Bob will be sorely missed.
Next meeting - April 2nd (before Holy Week)
Thanks to all, and God bless!
Love,
Bob

MINISTRY REPORTS
Environment:
Terry was not present but Barbara asked the committee for their
suggestions for Lent. All the purple banners are to be used. If the
Journey Banner can be found it could be hung from the balcony. Dormant
trees or bushes are to be placed where the palm trees usually are. Terry
sent word that she has fabric to make new purificators.
Eucharist: (Jean)
Jean reported that the new schedule has been sent out. She is going with
the same arrangement as last Easter.
Hospitality: (Don)
Nothing to report.
Lectors: (Victoria)
Tom Woods had asked for youth lectors and had turned in a list but Victoria
said she had never received it and she would ask him for another list. She
has made the schedule for March/April.
Music: (Wanda)
Wanda reported that the choir is learning new music for Easter and
preparing music for Lent.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1.) Transition to the new Church
Terry and Barbara are doing an inventory of our present vestments.
Jean has done and inventory of our present vessels and has looked in books
for ideas for the new space.
2.)Fr. Jack is writing an article in ³Heart to Heart² about the new post of
Liturgy coordinator to begin in our present facility.
3.) Margaret mentioned assigning one person to be our committeeıs liaison
with ³Heart to Heart². This person would make sure articles were put in the
paper. Connie Bergmanıs name was put forward.
4.) Renewal Wanda had a letter from the presenters and had e-mailed Jim.
The theme will be ³Journey to the Heart of Christ² She assumed that their
part is already prepared. She has chosen music. The question was put if
volunteers would be needed to man tables for Brother Mickiıs prints.
Fr. Joe mentioned that there could be something after the morning Masses for
the Young at Heart club for those who wished to stay. Who would notify Terry
Aiken that they would be speaking to the youth? Also who would notify Grace
Zambo of Young at Heart?
NEW BUSINESS
Ash Wednesday. There need to be Ministers of ashes (different from
Eucharistic ministers) at all Masses : 7am,9am school Mass,5pm Faith
Formation, and 7pm with stations in the front , back and balcony. The
ministers will ask a variation of ³Will you have a change of heart and
believe the Good News?² Cards will be provided for the ministers. Victoria
will find people for the 7pm service.
Holy Week The sub committees for the various days will be decided
later. Fr. Jack will preside on Holy Thursday. The deacons will preside on
Good Friday. Fr. Joe will do Easter Vigil. There is a chance that there
will be no baptisms this year. The question was asked if there were any
children or a family willing to have an infant baptized. All the services
will follow the basic plans from last year. There will be an extra Mass on
Easter Sunday.
During Lent there will be a simplicity meal and Stations of the Cross on
Friday nights except March 2,2001,
Training and Formation Margaret felt that last fallıs information
session was not as successful as it could have been. Having it at a
different time and perhaps for only one day was discussed.
Overall view of Lent Wanda gave the order for the first Sunday of Lent
including a lector to read an introduction, the procession of the choir and
the penitential Litany. Fr. Jack did not feel the procession was adequate.
Wanda said the choir could start from the hall. Margaret remarked that the
procession helped the congregation become aware that something different was
happening. The baptismal font will be open and empty with purple strips in
the form of a cross laid over it. The Paschal candle will be removed.
The order of the Mass will be :
Announcements
Silence
Procession
Confetior said while kneeling
Sung Kyrie
Rite of Sending
Dismissal of catechumens
Sign of Peace before the presentation of the gifts
>From Fr. Joe The readings will be from Cycle C so Victoria must tell the
lectors to be careful. If there are scrutinies they will be modified by
Betsy. What weekend in March will be used for the first scrutiny? March
17-18 is bad because that is the in pew appeal for the DSA. This is a lean
year for RCIA with one catechumen and two candidates.
Fr. Jack brought up Mickey Boylanıs idea for the older servers to be
acolytes. He will discuss it with Mickey. Also Mickey needs to be alerted
that for Holy Week older seasoned servers are needed (high school age). Paul
Moerner was suggested. Fr. Jack will be doing something for the older
servers at the end of the year.
PASTORıS COMMENTS
We are now in a lull but soon reality will hit that we are going to move
soon.
Margaret commented that we will have to start recruiting more people
especially ministers of Hospitality. Fr. Jack suggested that some new
recruits who felt comfortable speaking in public could take over the
announcements before Mass.
Wanda closed with a prayer. .
IHM Liturgy Commission
Meeting Minutes
January 8, 2001
Members Present: Jean Dames, Kathi Auman-Einig, Don Fordyce, Wanda Garrett,
Margaret Haarsgaard (chair), Deacon Tom Kak, Terry Mulligan, Deacon Joe
Smith, Bob Vareha, Barbara Whicker, Rev. Joe Zuschmidt
Minutes Review
* Wanda re-opened a discussion about adding skilled, professional
musicians to our Sunday Masses. She pointed out that professional musicians
with advanced skills could possibly be found within the members of our
parish. Fr. Joe emphasized the tight budget situation that we will have for
the near future, and that he found the idea neither feasible nor necessary.
He mentioned that although some that attend the Masses do not like the style
or quality of the music offered at their regular Mass, the musicians show a
strong commitment to their ministry through their overall consistent
attendance.
Ministry Reports
Lectors (Margaret)
* Margaret's son Joseph has begun to serve as a Youth Mass lector, and
has mentioned the need for more lectors to his friends.
Environment (Barbara)
* Terry received much positive feedback about the look of the church
during Christmas. Several people mentioned how they like the "chimneys" on
top of the candles.
* Ordinary Time decorations are now in place.
Eucharist (Jean)
* Jean mentioned an increase in attendance at the 6pm Saturday Mass,
and inquired about adding a fourth Eucharist station. Fr. Joe suggested
that the number of stations be kept at three, with a station added on those
nights when a social function is happening in the gym afterwards.
* Fr. Joe mentioned a married couple that is registered at both IHM
and Christ the King, and they only attend Mass at IHM when they are
scheduled for ministry. The consensus opinion of the commission was to
exclude their names for the next schedule.
Hospitality (Don)
* The Christmas Eve masses were missing some ministers of hospitality
due to no-shows.
Music (Wanda)
* Wanda and the music ministry is preparing for Lent.
* Many people have commented favorably about the completed CD's. So
far, we have sold about 500 CD's and 125 cassettes, which is about half of
our goal.
New Church Transition - the Commission's Role
* Terry and the environment ministers have started taking pictures of
our existing vestments, as a way of making an inventory of what we have, and
determining what new vestments we need. They will need access to the
vestments that are stored at the rectory.
* Jean has begun looking at the floor plan of the new church, and
determining where Eucharist stations could be. Fr. Joe requests that two
ministers of the cup should be stationed near every minister of the host.
* Jean will also take an inventory of our sacred vessels.
* There will be three sets of doors that people will use to enter and
exit the church building for Mass. All three sets lead into corridors that
meet in the rear center of the worship space. This will ease the burden on
ministers of hospitality.
* Someone mentioned a coat-check service for Masses. The conclusion
was that we would probably not offer a coat check, unless it was associated
with a special event / after-Mass function.
* We re-opened the discussion of changing the Saturday night Mass time
to earlier than 6pm. Fr. Joe pointed out that Saturday afternoons are
already constricted by weddings (as late as 3:30pm) and Reconciliation
(starting at 5pm). Taking this into account, scheduling Mass earlier than
6pm is not feasible.
* Four large picture windows are planned for the new worship area.
Each window will host a liturgical season theme - one for Advent/Christmas,
one for Lent/Easter, one for Ordinary Time, and one for Pentecost. The
Pentecost window will adorn the rear of the worship space, so it will be the
first and last thing people see.
New Ministries - Liturgy Coordinator and Greeter
* The Liturgy Coordinators will coordinate each of the three weekend
Masses, two coordinators per Mass (six total per weekend). They will also
unlock the church approximately 45 minutes before Mass. Tom will write
solicitations for the bulletin and Heart-to-Heart. He and Deacon Joe will
work to "plan" the ministry, establishing more detailed duties that the
Liturgy Coordinators will perform.
* The Greeter will make announcements before Mass (or some other time,
if another time is deemed appropriate), welcome the congregation, and ask to
recognize visitors. There should be one greeter per Mass, and they should
be comfortable speakers. Wanda suggested that a member of the music
ministry for that Mass could perform this ministry. Fr. Joe suggested, and
many agreed, that ideally the Greeter ministry should be done by a separate
minister. Kathi will write a solicitation for Greeters for the bulletin and
Heart-to-Heart.
* With the growth of the parish, and the reduction of weekend Masses,
we should have people available and willing to perform these ministries.
Jean encouraged the commission members to spread the word. We agreed that
these ministries could begin while we're still in our current church, so
they would be well in place when we move.
Heart-to-Heart
* Bob is writing an article about the upcoming liturgical seasons -
Lent, Triduum, and Easter.
* Easter Mass times should be reported in the upcoming issue: 8:00pm
Easter Vigil, 7:00am, 8:30am, 10:30am, and 12:30pm Easter Sunday.
* Barbara will write an article about the upcoming Renewal. She will
communicate with the two presenters, to learn more about their planned
content.
Parish Renewal - March 10-14, 2001
* The renewal will be presented by Jim Greenfield and Mickey McGrath.
* Some of the themes that may appear at Renewal, and during Lent:
* Luke's Gospel - Journey to Jerusalem
* 2001 A Church Odyssey - A spiritual journey, as we prepare for our
physical journey
* What does it mean to have full, active, conscious participation?
* Transfiguration (our gospel reading during the Sunday of Renewal)
* Fr. Joe will ask the presenters to do something at the 9:00am daily
Mass during their stay.
* Should we incorporate the Lenten Penance service into the Renewal,
as in the past? Most likely yes, we will have the Penance service on
Tuesday evening, March 13.

December 11, 2000
Members Present: Connie Bergman, Victoria Fonke, Don Fordyce, Margaret

Ministry Reports
Lectors (Victoria)
* Despite Victoria's efforts, no youth members beyond our original
three have volunteered to be lectors at the Sunday night youth Mass.
Victoria has talked to the high school kids, and next will solicit the 8th
grade class members. She will also submit an announcement to be posted in
the bulletin after Christmas. Lectors for the youth Mass do not need to be
confirmed.
* Deacon Tom requested that Victoria schedule a lector for the 8pm
service on New Years' Eve.
Hospitality (Don)
* Don is personally asking hospitality ministers when they are
available to serve during Christmas. Then he will establish the schedule
for the holiday.
Environment (Barbara)
* Everything that needs to be ordered for Christmas has been ordered,
and the required people are scheduled to apply decorations on December 24th.
* Barbara will confirm with Terry that Christmas trees for the altar
have been selected from the Knights' supply. The Knights traditionally
donate the altar trees to the church.
Eucharist
* Jean told Margaret that ministers have been scheduled for the
holidays.
Music (Wanda)
* Music ministers are scheduled for all the Christmas masses.
* IHM Singers will sing at 6pm Mass on Christmas Eve.
* The remaining order of Choir CD's were expected to arrive later this
week.
Liturgy Coordinator Ministry
* Fr. Jack requested that we deviate from the term "sacristan" for
this new ministry, and instead define it as "Liturgy Coordinator."
New Church Transition - the Commission's Role
* Fr. Jack presented an overview of the work that has been done by the
Liturgical Subcommittee for the new church. He showed sketches of the
church's major items (altar, ambo, font, etc.) and explained their
locations, along with sample materials for the walls, furniture, and floors.
He also distributed much of this information in a handout.
* One concept that the Liturgical Subcommittee has for the Meditation
Room is to establish it as a "Chapel of the Word." Here is where we could
keep the Book of the Gospels, and perhaps process with it during Mass
(during the Gospel Acclamation?).
* We shared thoughts about seasonal decorations in the new church.
There will be large spaces available for decorating, including the Narthex,
the back wall of the worship space, and above the worship space (i.e.,
hanging items, like the Advent Wreath, from the ceiling). Wanda suggested
that we should install the fixtures needed to mount decorations during the
church's construction, to have good methods of decorating in place from the
start
* Wanda stressed that one large role that our commission must fulfill
is to determine, "How do we want to celebrate in this worship space?"
* The commission agreed that 9am and 11am make sense as the Sunday
Mass times for the new church. For Saturday evening, there were suggestions
for 5pm, 5:30pm, and 6pm Mass.
* Tom inquired about hiring professional musicians to play at Mass
when we move to the new church. Fr. Jack suggested that music should remain
a ministry within the parish.
Advent Penance Service - December 19th
* Fr. Jack said that everything is set to go.
Parish Renewal - March 2001
* The renewal will be presented by Jim Greenfield and Mickey McGrath.
It is expected that they will supply the topic and the program.
Next meeting - January 8th

Meeting Minutes
November 13, 2000
Members Present: Kathi Auman-Einig, Victoria Fonke, Margaret Haarsgaard
(chair), Deacon Tom Kak, Rev. Jack Kelly, Terry Mulligan, Deacon Joe Smith,
Bob Vareha, Jean Dames, Barbara Whicker, Rev. Joe Zuschmidt
Ministry Reports
Lectors (Victoria)
* Mickey asked Victoria to schedule lectors for the youth Mass, but
there are only three youth lectors available. Victoria will talk to Terry
Aiken about soliciting more lectors, then scheduling a workshop.
Hospitality (Kathi)
* Our ministers have been traditionally male, and it would be good to
integrate more. We have had a problem with some ministers declining new
help. Also, they have resisted invitations to ministry training and
exposure to liturgical background information.
Environment (Terry)
* We took a look at a description for a "Sacristan" (table
preparation) from another parish.
* We will use the same Advent wreath, cloths, and banners as in
previous years.
* One family asked to put flowers on the altar during the first Sunday
of Advent, to recognize their daughter's wedding. Wedding flowers are not
appropriate for around the altar during Advent. Flowers around the statue
of Mary are fine, especially during the feast of the Immaculate Conception.
Terry will talk to Ann Marie about a mention of the family's wedding in the
bulletin.
We will have some special decorations for Thanksgiving.
Eucharist (Jean)
* We have 16 new ministers, including youth, and only one person left
the ministry.
* We had two training sessions in October, but existing ministers
failed to attend.
Music (Bob)
* Fr. Joe will ask Wanda at tomorrow's staff meeting who is playing at
the First Reconciliation service.
Welcome Weekend - December 3rd
* The commission is responsible for the refreshments (donuts, juice,
coffee) on Sunday morning. Jean, Margaret, and I will be participating.
* There will be an Advent Spaghetti Fund-Raising Dinner on December
2nd. The choir and the IHM Singers will be singing, and we will have a
welcoming table for anyone wishing to register.
Sacristan Ministry
* We have a need for "Sacristans", to coordinate the liturgy before
Masses. We would do well with two sacristans per Mass, to ensure a backup
minister in the absence of one. Fr. Jack will write a request for
sacristans for Heart to Heart, plus we can mention it in the bulletin.
* Perhaps in the future, we will have a paid position of Director of
Liturgy, someone who will lead and coordinate the sacristans.
New Church Transition - the Commission's Role
* We discussed the list of issues from last meeting's minutes, and
distributed the responsibility for each group of issues to their respective
ministries. We will begin discussing the issues at next meeting.
* Ann Marie knows the location of various catalogs for many of the
items that need to be chosen.
* We will have one less Mass on Sunday mornings when we move to the
new church. What will the Mass times be, and why? One suggestion is to
have Masses at 9am and 11am, as a fall-between compromise to the current
Mass schedule.
First Reconciliation Service
* Betsy is planning the service, but she has not disclosed her plans
to the commission. In the future, the commission should be informed of such
sacrament liturgies.
Thanksgiving Mass
* As in previous years, we will have a non-perishable food collection
during Mass. Bob will call Terry Brown of the Community Life Commission to
find someone to deliver the food to the Open Door Ministry after Mass.
Deacon Tom will write an announcement of the collection for the bulletin.
Immaculate Conception
* Kathi will procure hospitality ministers for the evening masses.
Christmas
* We will offer Eucharist under just one species for the 6pm and 9pm
Christmas Eve Masses. Both species will be offered at Midnight, 9am, and
11am Christmas Masses.
We will need extra Eucharistic Ministers for the 6pm Mass.
Heart to Heart
* Bob will compose an article about Lent/Triduum/Easter for the Spring
issue. Articles are due at the end of January.
Anointing of the Sick
* We will look at the pre-Lent Ordinary Time readings, to find an
appropriate Sunday to offer this sacrament. At first glance, January 28th
looks like an appropriate day.

Ministry Reports
Lectors (Victoria)
- The two recently-signed lectors who had not registered
with the parish have now registered.
Hospitality (Don)
- There were no new ministers of hospitality resulting
from the Stewardship weekend.
- Don will minister at the 7:00am mass on Sunday,
October 22, during the Furniture Market.
Environment (Terry)
- The commission was in full agreement that we should
have a large wreath mounted in the sanctuary during Advent and Christmas, as
in previous years. Terry will order this (working with Steve O’Connell).
- The environment ministry had 4-5 new sign-ups from
Stewardship weekend. Terry has assigned duties to each minister. They now
have enough for substitutes.
Eucharist (George)
- George has the latest Eucharistic Minister schedule.
- Fr. Joe is presenting training sessions on Oct.18 and
28. Jean should alert the ministers that this session will include formation
for ALL ministers, plus training for new ministers.
Liturgical Formation Sessions Review
- The sessions were not as well attended as last year’s.
Perhaps next year, we may conduct one session instead of two, since people
are inclined to only attend one of two. Also, it might be better to schedule
it in August instead of September, when school functions are competing for
people’s time.
- Next year, the formation will cover the liturgical
transitions we will experience as we move our worship to the new church. It
is a session that we will most likely present ourselves. We can use the
session to introduce the ministers to these changes, and then have hands-on
training once the new building is open.
Commission Minutes on the IHM Website
- Fr. Joe released the access password to the
commission.
Welcome Weekend – December 3rd
- The commission is responsible for the refreshments.
Jean, Margaret, and I will be participating, as well as others who may
volunteer (Please Help!)
New Church Dedication
- Should we dedicate the new church before we use it for
Mass? Planning a dedication ceremony may be too much during Christmas time –
perhaps we will schedule it a few weeks after. This is assuming that the
church is done by that time.
Church Schedule Remarks
- All Saints Day (10/31,11/1) – 11/1 is a Wednesday, so
there will be a 5pm Mass. Bob to discuss music availability with Wanda.
- Thanksgiving (11/23) – Coordinators are to solicit
volunteers to minister at the 10am Mass.
- Christ the King (11/26) – As part of the Jubilee Year,
the priest will bless the lay ministers before the final blessing at each
Mass. Deacon Tom is to supply the text for this blessing.
- First Weekend of Advent (12/2,3) – The priests need
the text for the Blessing of the Wreath, and for the
Introductory/Penitential Rite.
- Advent Penance Service (12/19, 7:30pm) – Fr. Jack will
coordinate the service, Connie and Barbara will set up the church.
New Church Transition – the Commission’s
Role
Fr. Joe presented a list of issues (articles to purchase, new ministry
positions to fill, ritual changes, etc.) which the members of the commission
need to explore and resolve. The issues have been listed below, separated into
ministry-related groups. Commission members from each ministry are assigned to
reconcile the issues in the group related to their ministry. Other issues will
be added as they pop up and/or are suggested by the members.
Environment
Altar covers (do we need any?)
Tapestries, decorations

Correction of Minutes from Last Meeting
* At last month's meeting, we discussed the
liturgical aspects of the
Mass that were recently clarified in the
Roman Missal. These aspects
included that the deacon should kneel during
the Eucharistic Prayer, and
that the priest is not to leave the sanctuary
during the Sign of Peace. The
commission notes these suggestions.
Ministry Reports
Lectors (Fr. Jack)
* Fr. Jack and Victoria hosted a lector
training session last
Saturday, at which several new lectors
attended. Another session is
scheduled for Wednesday.
* Some non-members of the parish signed up to
be lectors. Victoria
will send them a letter, along with a
registration form, stating that they
should register with the parish before being
a minister.
Music (Wanda)
* Many people have offered to help with the
music ministry at the
Youth Mass. Wanda stressed that those who
participate should be adequately
skilled.
Hospitality
* Fr. Jack requested that the ministers of
hospitality record the
estimated attendance at each weekend Mass
throughout October. He gave Don
and Kathi specific forms to complete with
their estimates.
Liturgical Formation Sessions (this Weekend)
* Delegated responsibilities:
Publicity - Connie and Wanda
Setup (Gym and Church) - Barbara and Mickey.
We need
a whiteboard and bibles for the Church.
Food - Margaret doing refreshments on Friday
night,
Connie doing lunch on Saturday. (Terry is no
longer available this weekend.)
Lunch will include deli-type buffet. Kathi is
bringing pasta salad and
pastries.
Clean-up help - Bob
Communication with Fr. David - Wanda
Heart-to-Heart
* Deacon Tom volunteered to write an article
for the Advent issue.
New Church Transition - the Commission's Role
* Randy Moser is chairing the "Transition
2001" committee.
* When we move to the new church, the Mass
times will probably change,
and one Sunday morning mass may be dropped.
Groundbreaking
* The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled
for September 24.
* The ceremony has been planned.
* Bob, Wanda, and Ann Marie will prepare the
programs.
* The contractors are supplying shovels.
* We need poles for holding the banners. Ask
Margaret about this.
Welcome Weekend - October 7/8
* The commission is scheduled to supply the
donuts. However, since
the meeting, we have switched with Family
Life, and are now doing the donuts
in December.
Holiday Schedule
* 10/27 - Halloween Carnival in the gym,
6-8pm
* 10/31 - All Saints Day vigil, 7pm Mass
* 11/1 - All Saints Day, 9am, 5pm, 7pm Masses
* 11/23 - Thanksgiving, 10am Mass
* 11/26 - Christ the King
* 12/2,3 - First Sunday of Advent
* 12/24 - 4th Sunday of Advent - NO MASS AT
NOON!! Those that are
decorating the church for Christmas can begin
after the 10am Mass. Then
Phil will clean the church after the
decorations are complete.
* 12/30 - 6pm Mass
* 12/31 - 8am, 10am, noon Masses. NO YOUTH
MASS at 6pm. At 8pm, we
will have a Jubilee Celebration Service (not
a Mass).
* 1/1 - NOT A HOLY DAY this year. We will
have normal 9pm daily Mass
* This schedule should appear in the next
Heart-to-Heart.
Advent Penance Service
* First choice - 12/19, 7:30pm
* Second choice - 12/5, 7:30pm
* Fr. Joe will coordinate the date with the
diocese.
* We will discuss the service at another
meeting. We will probably
take themes from Luke's Gospel.
* 1st Reconciliation Service is scheduled for
11/18, 10am. Betsy is
planning the service.
Other Business
* Fr. Jack is ordering sourcebooks for the
commission, and workbooks
for the lectors.
* This year, the feast of Christ the King
(11/26) is also the Jubilee
Day for Lay People. We will have a special
blessing for lay people at the
end of each Sunday Mass. Also, we will list
in the bulletin the percentage
of the parish who work in lay ministries.
