R.C.I.A. (Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults) The
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a
process of responding to God's call to full
membership in the Roman Catholic Church.
The first phase of this process, the Pre-Catechumenate,
explores the Scriptures of the upcoming Sunday,
and the individual's response to God's call. The
second phase, the Catechumenate, deals
with the development of Catholic theology,
history, traditions, and the formation of the
individual's spiritual life, as well as
emphasizing community, service and worship.
During Lent, those preparing for baptism or full
communion and confirmation enter the phase of
Enlightenment. The final phase, Mystogogy,
is the time for the new member and the community
to grow in faith and understanding of our
continuing response to God's call.
R.C.I.A. is an on going, year round process.
Those interested may enter the process at any
time. Persons who complete the process are not
obligated to become full members of the Roman
Catholic Church, although that is the typical
outcome. Current members may participate in
R.C.I.A. sessions to strengthen their own
personal understanding.
The entire IHM community is encouraged to
participate in the ministry of forming new
Catholic Christians. For part of the process, we
need adults to share their faith and lead
discussions with the Candidates and Catechumens.
We also need sponsors who will act as a personal
link between the person seeking full membership
and the parish community. The sponsor helps the
individual by providing encouragement, praying
for and with his/her candidate, introducing
him/her to the community, and joining in
discussions about faith issues. |
